harapura is a non-profit foundation building ventures and institutions working toward a just and sustainable food system in Indonesia and the wider region.
We are one of a few organizations working intentionally across a wide system, holding the complexity rather than simplifying it away.
Our Role
harapura has another side.
harapura foundation, at harapura.org, is the non-profit building ventures and institutions across the food system. harapura consulting, at harapura.com, is the consulting practice working with organizations across any sector where sustainability matters, on strategy, implementation, and impact measurement.
The consulting work funds the foundation's operations. That is deliberate.
It is a sign of our responsibility, conviction in the thesis, and skin in the game.
What We Actually Believe
harapura is built on a particular set of convictions.
We believe in work over talk.
Discussion matters, but the food system does not change through position papers and conferences alone. It changes when organizations are built, when practices shift on the ground, when capital moves to the right places, and when communities that have been excluded from those decisions start shaping them. We orient toward that.
We believe in science, engineering, and precision.
Social impact work does not have to mean vague goals and unmeasurable outcomes. We bring the same rigor to food systems that an engineer brings to a structure that needs to hold weight. Things either work or they do not. We want to know which.
We believe this work takes time.
The temptation in impact work is to show results faster than the system actually moves. We resist that. The organizations we support are working on problems that took decades to develop. The expectation that they resolve in a grant cycle is not realistic.
How We Work
Venture building is the primary mode: co-designing with founders and institutions from the earliest stages, providing embedded technical assistance, and staying as organizations grow. The communities working inside the food system every day hold knowledge that no external analysis can replicate. Our work is only useful when it is genuinely grounded in that.
Governance
harapura is registered non-profit as a yayasan under Indonesian law. It has been acknowledged by international non-profit certification bodies.
The organization is governed by a board of governance and a board of trustees, currently being reassembled with the right mix of expertise, accountability, and proximity to the work.
We measure our own performance by whether the food system is actually changing, not by activity or reports produced. We hold financial, relational, and intellectual resources on behalf of a mission and use them carefully. We are honest about what works and what does not. We resist pressure that trades long-term integrity for short-term visibility or recognition.

The Team
harapura is being built as an institution, not personalities. The principles it operates on do not belong to any individual: they did start from the people and are being replicated into the organization. The principles set how decisions are made, who gets a voice in those decisions, how partners are treated, and what gets prioritized when resources are tight.
The team is made up of people who are skilled, grounded, and willing to do the work that systems change actually requires.
